Hints and Tips for Texas Hold 'Em'

Texas Hold 'Em
If you want to be a good poker player, you need to be able to read the other players in the game you are involved in. assessing when you feel they are bluffing and when they have a very solid game as well.
By learning some of the basic rules and strategies you will be able to go a long way in making sure you can hold your hand in a friendly game with friends.
There are 2 things you really need to remember for this even though it may seem silly to you about reminding you of these but it is very easy to be totally involved in the excitement of the game and lose your train of thinking and forget the basic rules of the game.

so don't forget to try following the rules at all times

1)
The 1 cards that are in front of you are the only 2 cards that only you can see, (do not let the other players see these 2 cards).
These 2 cards set you apart from the other players and give you a chance to win the game.

2)
The cards that are face up on the table in front of you are known as the community cards and are shared but all the players that are involved in the game you are playing.
You need to make sure that you concentrate on these cards as well. you need to think about how much these cards mean to you as well as another player. As these cards could mean more to another player. Keep your eyes open for the other players chance for a straight or flush.

Assessing your cards

When ever you first look at the cards you have been given, try not to reveal any reaction to them... either by your facial expressions or otherwise is taking a sharp breath as it gives the other players knowledge of what your reaction is to your two cards are. Try to be as emotionless as you can.

How do you know if your cards are good?

depending on how many players there are in the game but the general rule is you should try and and fold before the flop is you have 2 cards that are non pairing and both less than 10. A player who is a little more conservative may fold if just 1 of their cards is less than 10.

More Tips!

A lot of Texas Hold 'Em strategy is based on the cards in your hand. You may find that you suffer a series of poor hands before you are dealt a good hand. Try not to be impatient with this, the good hands will eventually come to you and you will find yourself in a better position to take advantage of the other players in the game. (If you have not already wasted your chips (money) trying to get something out of nothing already.

The Flop

What is the Flop you may be asking......

After the first betting round, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called burning the card and is done to ensure that no one accidentally saw the top card, and to help prevent cheating.

The dealer then flips the next three cards face up on the table. These cards are called the "flop."

After seeing the flop, don't be afraid to cut your losses. A common mistake made by a beginner is to decide, "I'm already in this hand, so I might as well play it out." Wrong.

Depending on how many players you have at the table, 2 pair or better will generally be the wining hand.
If you find you don't have a high pair after the flop has been laid down and you are not in a good position for a straight or a flush, you should probably think about getting out of the hand now.
However as the number of players fold the chances of a potential strong hand goes up..... so if you are at the table with just 2 other players think about it could possibly pay off to be a little more aggressive with your hand.

If you find that you are the first to bet after the flop don't be afraid to check your cards again as this can be an advantage in 2 different ways, firstly if your hand is on the weak side you may be able to see more than 1 card without having to put any money in the pot or if you have a strong hand you may find that you will be able to convince some of the other players that it is a weaker Had than it really is.

Fourth Street and Fifth Street

These are also known as The Turn and The River, even when these cards are turned over you also have a chance to get out of the game before you put anymore money into the pot or to increase what you may be able to win from the pot of money in the centre of the table.

By this point there will probably be only 1 or 2 other players in the game with you, always be cautious at this point. make sure you are checking your cards each time the flop is played. after the 4th flop is played do not stay in unless you are able to play a straight or a flush (without putting any more money in the pot)

Although there may be times when you would have drawn the straight or flush, they will be outweighed by the times you wouldn't.

The bottom line is this: Don't allow yourself to get sucked in too far with a weak hand.

When playing always be cautious.
